Film Review

Education as a work

After watched the film Modern times, I started to make connections between the film and our education and, I could observe and relate how the education now a day is taken as a job, not as a learning process which can help to improve our society and people's lives. Instead of that, now people tend to think that is only a tool which can help them to get a steady job, leaving aside the education and schools and not having them as priorities for a better future.

How I say before, the education is taking as a job because for students and teachers the main important thing is responsibility. I am going to explain this from my teacher experience, in which I could saw and observe the school environment from a different perspective. Rules at schools are; that students have to study for a test, students have to deliver their work in time, bring material when someone ask them, arrive in time and many others typical things, things that at the end do not say us anything about the importance of our learning process. So, it is like if schools were preparing workers and not thinking minds.

Another important issue in our education is that students receive orders and they cannot expose their concerns or talk to an authority like if they were pairs. So, what I try to say is that students at schools are repressed and they cannot develop their abilities because they are locked in a place in which they are not active people. Moreover, schools have roles for each person and those roles assigned characteristics to someone, which are different for teachers, students, a director, secretaries, parents etc… So, here the film show us how similar is a school structure with a job one because in the movie we could observe how workers were following orders of their bosses and they could not even have time to rest or go to the restroom because employers prefer to improve their economic situation and the production instead of think first in their employees needs.
In our society it is very important what role we represent because that can give us status and authority and what is much important what education we receive. I say this because we can see this issue in the news every day, how poor people do not receive the education they deserve and how people with a good economical situation can have a decent education with excellent schools. Also, teachers prefer to teach in those better schools because they have better result in tests. This is a relevant problem which has passed from generation to generation and we could see it in the film because poor families did not have to think in study because they should work since they were young and contribute with something to their houses.

After explain all these factor which influence in our education, we should know that as teacher we must be aware of these problems and face them because: what we get with from knowing them but we are not going to do something to change it? That will be contradictory. These problems are from years ago and we can note them by the connection I did from the film Modern Times which show all those workers having problems in a factory, which are very similar to those we have now in our education and how affect our learning and growth process and have a impact in the society and the world.
It is amazing how a film can be helpful and beneficial for teachers’ activities, because as teachers we must know that using different implements we can catch student’s attention easily. Moreover, we need to use our imagination and help to develop many students’ abilities; we can improve the education and create thinking people because the education and learning are the most important factors in our lives. So, we need to open our eyes and know that education and work are two different things and kids need to live every stage and do not mix them because, that can affect their learning process and their perspective of how affront their life’s. I say this because someone who works her/his entire live will never think in study and be better, that person will be thinking in have a job, money and maintain or gain a position but only in his/her job, and not using their knowledge and think that he/she can have something better for her/his future and study will be nothing important. We cannot let that this happen, and as teacher we can face it.

Modern Times

After watching the film "Modern Times" I could notes how drastic was the change in the world and how affected in people´s everyday life during the industrialization and, with the arrived of modernity.

First of all, factories changed the way how people live because in those years workers did not have any time to rest or eat. Also, some important things for the owners of factories were the economy and work, nothing else. In those years also workes did not have any right and they had to work many hours without a break and follow orders just because they need to work and need the money.

So, what brings modernity and industrialization was a marked social division, in which poor people were the most affected by this change because they were looking for jobs but without huge expectations. Machines were also replacing the work that people were use to do. So, that is why employees could not fight for their rights and were not having a goverment support, in the movie we saw how workers went on strike and they did not get good result and, should go back to work again but then some hours or days later they returned to strikes again.

In the film we saw Chaplin looking for a job because in the factory in which he was working before he suffered a crisis of overwork. So, after that he should search for a job, but many people were desesperate for a job too. So, live and work in those years was very difficult.

Take care.

"Elizabeth: The Golden Age"

Queen Elizabeth of England was considered a fighter and a true lover of his country. Her actions and beliefs collided and created many enemies around Europe and in their own country. But, she always thought first in the future of his country even before his personal life, because as she said and explain she was married to England and its people.

As I said before, Elizabeth during her reign was considered “the Virgin Queen”, this was because she never got married and the consequences that this name brought to her was be criticized for not having a husband and descendants, because in those years for women was almost a rule.

Elizabeth had a big problem with Spain due to the struggle of American lands and their belongings. Elizabeth accept some gifts from America, which was felt as an insult to Spain and also she support the expedition of those lands without care the opinion of Spain. Those issues provoked a war between kingdoms.

During her reign Elizabeth showed how important was for her to protect people and fight with them. Moreover she was committed to England.
Take care.

Natives & Immigrants

Immigrants are highly marginalize in these years, and they were also being marginalized those years from natives citizens because they disrupts the culture of their territory. Moreover, we must said that immigrants were fundamental during the development of England because immigrants contributed with their culture. At the same time, they also pushed natives to fight and search their own identity as a civilization.
England lived many fights, and most of the natives where descendants of previous immigrants but with a difference, that they respect each other and were used to their peace style of live.

So, as we know immigrants contribute with their culture in many ways like language customs, lifestyles and more. But many times they try to introduce or impose what they are which was the case in england, where different types of immigrants tried to control the Island and their people.
After saying this, I do believe that immigrants in some cases contribute in the construction and the search of a culture and a society, which was the case of many civilization which were invading england. But, at the same time were others which only contribute with deaths and power struggles.

My expectations.

First of all I was a little confuse about the subject, I didn´t know what to expect or think, but after our class on monday I realise that this will be a very demanding subject with a lot of reading.

After explain my first impression, I think that during this semesters I hope to achieve a connection with the subject, and feel me motivated to continue reading about the culture.
Moreover I expect dynamic classes, like have to work in groups, share our opinion and be free to express what we think.

I like my group of classmates because we have worked before, so I know that we can work excellent as a group. Also it is really motivated and I think that is essential to have a good enviroment in the classroom.
I hope that this will be a good semester for all of us, and personally my expectations are feel me confortable with the subject and have a conexion with it.

Regards.
